These works represent the artistic potential of byssus, which has a deep historical connection to its use over the past 2200 years. Due to its rarity in the past 200 years, byssus was traditionally used to create small artworks, sourced from the now-endangered Noble Pen Shell. As this craft faces near extinction, Seastex is launching the acoustic artworks segment to help revive and preserve the byssus industry.

In 2025, international designers will be selected to collaborate with Seastex in creating acoustic artworks from byssus. Seastex will produce a maximum of 40 works per year. Some artworks will be available directly through our website, with a raffle determining the buyer, while others will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The proceeds from the auction will be allocated to the following beneficiaries:

  • Donations to Triton Research - Life Pinna in Italy and IRTA - Life Pinnarca in Spain working to save the Noble Pen Shell from extinction.

  • A royalty for the designer.

  • Fees associated with the auction house.

  • A percentage to cover Seastex's expenses and ongoing R&D efforts.
